True insight into your gifts comes from prayer and the Holy Spirit. The purpose of discovering and exercising your God-given spiritual gifts is to promote 'the common good" of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:7), to build up the church (1 Corinthians 14:12), and to prepare us each for " works of service" (Ephesians 4:12).
